Writing Articles For Fun and Profit
There are hundreds of article directories on the Internet. They are all very similar. They are basically a central repository for interesting 1-page (normally 400-1000 words) articles about a specific topic.
Originally these article directories were popular mostly for ezine publishers. They could find information that they felt would be beneficial to their readers. Nowadays, an article directory is even more popular for web site owners that want to have pages about a subject, but don’t want to take the time to write it themselves. So, they just republish someone else’s work. Legally, of course.
Now, why would someone do all that work of writing an article, just so someone else could use it for free?
The reason is the resource box. It’s expected that if an ezine publisher or webmaster uses an article written by someone else, they include the resource box that’s typically at the bottom, and leave the hyperlink to the writer’s web site (if he has one), or email address (if he wants to be contacted that way, maybe to build up his email list).
So, the author of the article gets some free publicity. And if there’s a link to his web site, he gets an inbound link to whatever page he’s chosen, which improves his search engine ranking.
Over time, authors who submit many articles to dozens or even hundreds of article directories, eventually get their web sites ranked higher, get more free traffic, and if their web page is done well, they should earn extra profit.
This is your typical win-win situation. The author profits, and the ezine publisher or webmaster gets a nicely written article that his visitors might like.
I’ve been writing and submitting articles to article directories for awhile. It’s become much easier with the introduction of Jason Potash’s “Article Announcer” software tool, as well as all the written training that goes with it.
Call me crazy, but I’m so in love with, and believe so strongly about, the potential of article directories, that I’ve created my own. Though it’s small now, it welcomes anyone with a quality article to submit, one can do so without registering (but there are benefits if you do). For now, I’m the sole moderator, articles don’t go live until I read them, in order to keep the porno smut off the site, and also the blatant ads. But otherwise, if someone is contributing something that will benefit a reader, it will get approved.
Feel free to submit your articles, as many as you want to Article Spot. It’s now open for business.
The rules to use our directory are simple. If you want to submit an article, make sure you pick the right category, proof read it (you do want to look professional, right?), keep it clean, and no blatant ads. If you want to use an article that’s been submitted, you’re free to republish any article on the site, but you have to publish it intact with no changes, and including the resource box exactly as written (including any active hyperlinks, and no adding of the “nofollow” tag).
If you forget where you heard about our directory, and want to submit later, just come back to any page of the blog, I put a link to the directory on the right side links section.
